Polymer Composite Facilities
- Resin formulation laboratory with blending, mixing, and vacuum
degassing equipment.
- Century Design CD-8048-12 prepreg machine.
- Molds and equipment for laboratory-scale resin transfer molding
fabrication.
- Heated platen press with 20,000-lb. capacity and 200°C
maximum platen temperature.
- Air and vacuum ovens and two small autoclaves for curing composite

Material Testing and Evaluation Facilities
- 110,000-lb. Materials Testing System servo-hydraulic testing
machine.
ASTM fixtures for tension, compression, shear, flexure and fatigue
testing.
- 4 K to 500 K testing temperature range.
- LABVIEW software for experiment control and data acquisition.
Thermal expansion measurement from 4 K to 500 K.
- Viscometer with computerized data acquisition system.

Ceramic processing facilities
- Laboratory weighing, milling, and mixing equipment to tailor
the ceramic compositions and ceramic phase microstructure (0.1
to 10 kg capacity).
- 2 Thermolyne furnaces enabling us to fabricate monolithic,
chopped fiber, and particulate toughened ceramics to 1200°C
(10"x10"x12" hot zone).
- 1700(C high temperature furnace that will operate in air
or inert gas atmospheres.
- A Lindberg inconel retort furnace capable of 1200°C with
a controlled atmosphere - air, inert gases, or rough vacuum.
- Glove box facility for work in inert atmospheres.
Design/Analysis Facilities
- PC-based design and analysis workstations with SINDA, NASTRAN,
and ANSYS analysis programs.
- PC-based design workstations with SolidWorks 3D CAD program.
- Personal computers for all staff, Ethernet local area network,
and T1 Internet connection.
