According to CTD's Senior Engineer in charge of Insulation Programs, Matt Hooker, PhD.,
"We will continue the development of very thin, radiation-resistant, ceramic-based
insulation for use in the construction of high-field magnets. This new insulation
process will provide magnet developers with a means of producing closely packed Nb3Sn
superconductor coils using a high-temperature, wind-and-react process. The technology
simplifies magnet production, lowers fabrication costs, and allows for higher operating
fields. It is believed that this new insulation system, when combined with CTD's
cyanate ester resin, offers the most radiation-resistant insulation available in
the world today." |
