TEMBO®, CTD's Elastic Memory Composite (EMC) materials, are taking off! The Elastic Memory Composite Hinge (EMCH)
experiment has been delivered to NASA for flight to the International Space Station (ISS). The EMCH experiment,
sponsored by the Space Vehicles Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, is scheduled for launch at 9:38PM,
December 7th, 2006 on Space Shuttle Discovery Shuttle Mission STS-116. Approximately five days after launch,
EMCH will be transferred to the ISS, where it will reside for 18 months. Astronaut Sunita Williams, Flight Engineer
on STS-116, will live on ISS until June 2007, and she operate the EMCH experiment. During crew training, Sunita expressed
interest in operating EMCH during Saturday Science experiment sessions. As the name implies, Saturday Science projects are
performed on Saturday, the Astronauts day off. Astronauts select which experiments they would like to work on during
Saturday Science and the time spent is in addition to the scheduled experiment time during the week. Sunita's
Saturday Science experiment sessions will begin in late January or early February, and the schedule for Saturday
Science will come out two weeks before it begins.
