Our structural resin systems are formulated to support the filament winding manufacturing process for the Type V pressure vessel. From a performance perspective, these resin system are highly micro-crack resistant which enables the success of Type V liner-less composite tanks over traditional metal and composite lined tanks especially because of the lack of a liner which can significantly contribute to thermal distortions. CTD has led the industry in these types of pressure vessels and has been awarded a patent and has one additional patent pending for this technology.

Ultimately, the decision to utilize a linerless all-composite Type V pressure vessel is dependent on your design constraints. While this type of vessel may not make sense for use in your backyard grill, it will save a substantial amount for applications where mission costs remain high. This includes unmanned vehicle sorties, space launches, satellite re-positioning, and low- / zero-gravity applications where it is critical that the system leaks prior to bursting.
The toughened resins can be used with Advanced Fiber Placement (AFP), filament winding, Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), and Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI). Our resins are cryo-compatible, and work well in out-of-autoclave cure environments to enable easier manufacture.
